British Universities and College Sport (BUCS) is the league in which British universities compete against each other through a range of different competitive sports. The BUCS rankings are a total of points across the board from each sport, from Football and Tennis, to Jiujitsu.
LJMU climbs 16 places
The latest leaderboard means LJMU has jumped up 16 places since the previous rankings, making LJMU one of the top 50 places in the UK to study, whilst also competing at university sport level, with Team LJMU.
John Moores Students Union (JMSU) has over 33 sports clubs at LJMU, from skydiving to dance, with 51 of the university’s sports teams competing at BUCS.
During the past 12 months, 12 LJMU BUCS teams were victorious and secured promotion to higher divisions, the highest number of BUCS teams that have ever been promoted in LJMU history.
The Men’s Rugby League team has also been promoted to the BUCS Premiership for 2022/23 following one of the best seasons in the club's history and has become the first-ever team, from LJMU, to enter this level of competition.

“Making the BUCS top 50 is great news for Team LJMU.
“Over the past twelve months, we’ve opened our new state-of-the-art sports centre, a mutlimillion pound development at the heart of campus, complete with an eight-court sports hall, two studios and a new gym, and are looking to further invest in our sports facilities for students, staff and our local community.
“Joining a sports team or society is all part of the student experience here at LJMU and we currently offer a Sports Scholarship Scheme to support students who want to achieve their sporting and academic potential.
“We've supported Olympic and Commonwealth champions, so whether a student wants to train at a competitive level, or just stay active and make new friends, our sports clubs, teams and facilities are open to everyone.”

Team LJMU is going from strength to strength and over the past year we’ve seen a record-breaking number of members in our sports club.
