Glasgow Caledonian University has been named the UK's best-value-for-money university in StudentCrowd's 2021 University Awards – the country's only awards based entirely on student reviews.
StudentCrowd - the equivalent of TripAdvisor for students - also rated GCU 13th for job prospects and 19th for Course Content in the awards, which are based on the analysis of 19,323 reviews across 11 categories. Online reviews by students are, says UCAS, the second most important resource for applicants choosing their university.
StudentCrowd says: "Topping our best-value-for-money list is Glasgow Caledonian University. Located in one of the cheapest cities in the UK, the University is committed to its social mission to promote the common good. Their teaching methods aim to explore new and beneficial techniques to encourage students to apply their learning into the working world, with facilities such as the media studios and virtual hospital mimicking employment for students in an environment where they can improve their skills with support from tutors and peers.
"GCU emphasises the employability of its prospective graduates with its up-to-date curriculum that is relevant for career preparation. Students are exposed to technological learning and e-learning, and have highly rated the way their content has been taught. The University has a wide range of accreditations and industry links and organises many guest talks involving employers and graduates in industry, which helps students network and widen their understanding of different jobs and sectors.
GCU Principal and Vice-Chancellor Professor Pamela Gillies CBE FRSE said: "We are delighted to have once again been rated so highly by our students, which is reflected in the awards. We work hard to ensure that our students receive a rigorous, quality education that will give them the best launch pad to their career. It is wonderful that their feedback underlines that we are getting so much right."
